In the context of the Fiestas Patrias and the seasonal spike in consumption, the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) and the Tax Administration Service (SAT) have launched a joint operation to combat the adulteration and illicit digital trade of spirits. The strategy combines inspections at physical points of sale with exhaustive monitoring of e-commerce platforms and social networks, where clandestine offerings proliferate.

This institutional shield places the consumer at the center of the strategy: the public is urged to verify the authenticity of every bottle by scanning the QR code on the SAT tax marbete and confirming the official CRT mark along with the NOM number. Furthermore, authorities have issued a decisive alert to the restaurant sector and households alike: completely destroy caps, seals, and empty bottles before disposing of them, thereby eliminating the primary raw materials that feed bootlegging and refilling networks.

Faced with unfair competition from the informal market, these actions protect public health and safeguard the integrity of the Denomination of Origin. Purchasing from formal establishments and validating digital authenticity not only prevents toxicological risks, but also defends Mexico’s most representative agro-industrial heritage.
