El Día Nacional del Tequila is Now Official in the DOF

In a strategic move to consolidate the identity and market presence of one of Mexico’s most iconic beverages, the Federal Government officially established El Día Nacional del Tequila (National Tequila Day) this past Thursday, May 28. Following its publication in the Diario Oficial de la Federación (DOF), July 24 of each year has been designated as the official commemorative date for this spirit.

From a communications and audience analysis perspective, this decree transcends mere celebration; it represents institutional and reputational protection for the country’s brand. The Cámara Nacional de la Industria Tequilera (National Tequila Industry Chamber) welcomed Congress’s resolution, highlighting that it strengthens the beverage’s positioning within the highly competitive global premium market.

The industry—concentrated across five states with Denominación de Origen (Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas)—is an economic pillar: it generates over 100,000 jobs and produces 598 million liters annually, exporting 84% of its international sales to the United States. Its recognition in the DOF not only pays tribute to a UNESCO World Heritage site, but also fuels a digital narrative of pride and responsible consumption that directly connects with a new generation of global consumers.
