Celebrated for its cloud forests and cozy cabin retreats, the Pueblo Mágico of Mazamitla has added a fresh dimension to its alpine charm: high-altitude tequila production. Just over two hours from Guadalajara, the La Estacada estate houses the distillery behind Tierra Noble.

While the maguey is harvested in the Valles de Jalisco, the unique mountain climate—defined by high elevation, crisp air, and pristine water—imparts peerless traits to the spirit. At the helm of the operation, brothers Octavio and Alberto Herrera challenge traditional production dogmas by adopting methods like secondary malolactic fermentation—a winemaking technique that delivers exceptionally clean, complex aromatic profiles.

The venture pushes beyond standard distillation through limited-run labels aged in glass damajuanas and clay tinajas, paired with gourmet tasting experiences crafted by local chefs who match the spirit with regional icons like chile en nogada. Framed by mist, pine forests, and tasting glasses of tequila blanco, reposado, or añejo, Mazamitla successfully reinterprets the essence of Jalisco, proving that tequila heritage can thrive high in the sierra.
