The agave-tequila supply chain is doubling down on its environmental strategy through direct ground-level action. The Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT) and the Jalisco State Government have ramped up reforestation drives in Natural Protected Areas, channeling strategic funding into community nurseries to restore priority micro-watersheds across the Bosque La Primavera.
This field intervention complements the rollout of the Agave Responsable Ambiental (ARA) certification. Using geolocation systems and satellite monitoring, ARA guarantees that every harvested piña originates from registered parcels free of deforestation or land-use changes since 2016. Digital traceability not only dismantles the narrative of forest degradation historically pinned on the industry, but it also turns conservation into a mandatory export requirement.
Protecting Jalisco’s primary green lung aims to prove that sustainability in the sector is far from a corporate PR stamp—it is a community-backed technical standard. By pairing active reforestation with satellite rigor, the denominación de origen shields its ecological integrity, answering a global market that actively demands deforestation-free, ethically sourced spirits.
